When life throws us challenges, we often realise we can’t, or don’t want to, navigate them alone. Maybe you’ve thought about seeking help. Maybe a situation or conversation has sparked the idea. And then comes the question: Do I need therapy or coaching?
It makes sense that this feels confusing – after all, we don’t know what we don’t know. At Chayah, we believe that seeking support is a courageous act, and that the right guidance can help you rise whole, reconnect with yourself, and move forward with clear direction.
What Coaching Is
Coaching is about the present and the future. It’s where you are now – and where you want to go.
A coach helps you recognise patterns that may be holding you back, but we don’t do a deep dive into past trauma or unresolved issues. Instead, coaching is about building skills, insight, and self-reflection so you can move forward with clear direction.
Think of it as a process of walking alongside you. A coach helps you uncover blind spots, identify what’s keeping you stuck, and create momentum toward the vision you want for your life or work. Coaching is forward-focused: encouraging, scaffolding, equipping, and strengthening you as you grow.
What Therapy Is
Therapy, on the other hand, is often about going deeper. It’s a space held by a psychologist, counsellor, social worker, or psychiatrist to explore emotional distress, mental health challenges, or life difficulties in a safe and structured way.
Therapy looks to the past as well as the present. It helps you process root causes – often from early family or attachment experiences – that may still be affecting your relationships or daily functioning. Therapists use a range of approaches to help you gain insight, manage emotional discomfort, and develop coping strategies that fit your life.
Why Both Matter
Both coaching and therapy can be powerful, depending on what you need.
Therapy tends the roots, bringing healing where it’s most needed. Coaching provides the sunlight and water, helping you grow toward your vision.
Sometimes you may need one, sometimes both. Either way, choosing support is an act of courage. Both honour your humanity. Both can change your life.
At Chayah, we hold safe spaces for coaching conversations, helping women uncover their inner wisdom, explore their options, and rise into the fullness of who they were created to be.
